I sort of love Martha Stewart...

In an effort to express a little bit of the "Martha Stewart" within me, I have been busy attempting to put together some self-made birthday paraphernalia for Savannah's 4th birthday!

Every time I attempt projects like these, I do them half-heartedly because deep down, I know I am NOT that good at doing things from scratch! But my desire to express love for my daughter out-weighs my perfectionistic tendencies so I press on…. and I have to admit, it IS fun!

We decided to once again opt-out of doing a 'group/class' party for Savannah because she really is at an age where small groups are more fun for her… she really likes one-to-one interactions and she values her close friends and the time they spend together. So we'll bring treats to her class and celebrate during lunch with them.

My first 'home-made' project: The Mickey Mouse Cookies
I took cookie dough, grouped them in threes and hoped for the best. Most of them turned out pretty well, but we had a decent stack of 'left-overs' because they broke apart right away!
Here is the final product:

The second project: The Mickey Mouse Outfit
I am really not proud of this one… but we'll see if the outfit holds up! I bought the cheapest sewing machine I could find and made attempts at a home-made skirt. I am hoping when she wears it to school that it won't fall apart! The shirt was easy, I just bought it from Target, cut out a "4" and hand-sewed it to the front. Fun stuff :)

The third project: The Mickey Cake!
This one I have yet to start! I plan to make 3  9" inch rounds and form a "Mickey Head" - then I'll ice it with regular ice, and have a go with "Fondant" which I have become obsessed with after watching tons of episodes of "Cake Boss" and "Ace of Cakes." We'll see!!!
