I'm sure we're all re-accessing and re-evaluating, setting new goals and taking the opportunity to wipe our slate clean. There is something inherently liberating about that stroke of midnight when we leave a year behind us, whether good or bad, and start something new. But what really is 'new' about it? We become determined to 'get in better shape,' 'get our priorities in order' etc. However it doesn't take long for our new-found motivation to wear off, and before we enter February we're back in the same routine.
So why not choose something else to improve this year? Something less conventional. Yes, that's the secret! And so I will make an attempt to take you on my journey. This year, my resolution is to 'love better.' Yes, sounds silly... but don't give up on me just yet!
I am not a firm believer in 'circumstance' and so by what I believe to be God's hand in my little life, I came across a treasure in the midst of my Christmas shopping this last December and by a single $9.99 purchase I will spend the next year reading "The Love Dare Day By Day." Typically when you purchase a book like this you leave the store feeling excited, hopeful and ready to crack open to day one. Sometimes you're disappointed but you muddle through. In the three days that I have done this, I must say I already feel challenged and changed.
Try this exercise, and spend the next 24 hours letting it percolate. I DOUBLE DARE!
Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 below; then read it again, but replace the word "love" and "it" with your name.
"4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
Do you feel convicted yet?
God Bless,
Rachel
